Boardman Rural Fire Protection District

The InterMountain fire department provides firefighting and nursing care services outside the Ramona City Water District and in the eastern Ramona region. As a 501c (3) nonprofit company in California State, it has a maximum of nine directors. Part of Ramona, particularly the Barona Mesa neighboring San Diego County Estate, lies within the jurisdiction of the San Diego Rural Fire Zone (see map of that area). With one exception, Ramona's public school is run by the Ramona Unified School District, which is managed by a five member election committee. The only exception is the Sun Valley Charter High School. The charter is approved by RUSD, but it is managed by its own board of directors. A few years later, the charter school failed due to the decrease in the number of students and the political friction of RUSD.
