Blog Post 4 – The Crucible, Rumors and Gossip

In the class, I recently read Arthur Miller's drama "The Crucible" based on the historic witch trial at Salem, Massachusetts. This story is basically accurate for historical events, and there are some changes to enable more interesting games. In "crucible", as the town became increasingly suspicious, Salem people began to blame magic with each other. But people quickly condemned magic as watching it as a way to win out the competition by driving away its enemies. Because the court can not have clear evidence of magic, they use people's words as sufficient evidence. And that is condemned by everyone and everyone is "close to the devil". Therefore, the only way to prevent people from being arrested is to humiliate their surname and to acknowledge that they are witches. So the minister of the town will save you from the devil. This topic is related easily to gossip rumors and contemporary issues (especially high school students). Even if there are no real people who believe it, people made rumors about each other that this person did this. It could bring rumors big problems. Suddenly everyone thought that this person was doing terrible things. In Salem people made rumors that people are witches. In 1692 and 1693 (the day of the "Salam Witch trial"), "Yuzu" itself is full of rumors and gossip.

Gossip seems to play an important role in every situation from news and politics to hit TV shows - the role of gossip in The Crucible, the life of Arthur Miller, and introduction of today's essay. In fact, it is an important element in history, especially in Salem witch trials. When "Yuzu" was written, the rumor affected the author Arthur Miller's life. Along with the outbreak of media, gossip and scandal are deepening in our daily life more than ever. Have you ever thought about what inspired a seriously unnecessary witch trial in Salem? Well, in The Crucible, everything starts with an irrational view of the girls dancing in the forest and what it means at that time. For Salem of those days, it means that he worked for the devil. A girl's leader Abigail spread the rumor and protected himself from the gallows. This in turn caused gossip, which led to the death of many innocent people.

Gossip in Crucible usually leads to killing people, but in today's society gossip is against and seems to kill people. In Salem, gossip is widespread, the reason is speaking with demons. Gossip in the town of Salem caused a big dilemma in the community. People are afraid of neighbors who are always shouting at them. In one example of today's society, people may be afraid of Canadian minorities, or other groups such as Muslims, foreign immigrants, people with low economic incomes. Media sometimes states that it is dangerous or unreliable. This is related to jealousy. Because the wrong accusation of character is gossip in other words. The stereotypes of these people living in the center of these groups may cause them to lose their reasonability due to their fears.
