Black Music and the Civil Rights Movement

On July 5, 1954, 49 days after the Supreme Court announced the decision of Brown and the Board of Education, a 19-year-old truck driver recorded Arthur Cru as "It is a good mother." Deppruce (Bertrand 46). A few weeks later, Memphis' disc jockey, Dewey Phillips found a clip and played on his radio program. He received calls from people from all walks of life, most of them are white, they want to hear more. He quickly found a musician and brought him to the studio for an interview, but the audience was surprised that Elvis was Caucasian (Bertrand 46).

The words themselves were even created during the civil rights movement. Yes, the civil rights movement is about Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, Brown, and the Board of Education. But the civil rights movement is Malcolm X, Black Panther Party, Chicano Sports and Brown Beret, Yellow Power and Yellow Brotherhood, American Indian Movement and Occupation Alcatraz Island, Third World Liberation Front and San Francisco State, 1931 Strike and Alvarez vs Lemon Grove First successful example of abolishing apartheid at an American school. We have not learned much about the civil rights movement including the Asian American role in the struggle.

The year of institutionalized discrimination and the civil rights movement that brought the end of it is an important part of the black history. As a result of the nonviolent civil rights movement, a black art movement was born. The black art movements accepted with reflections of obvious political and ethnic recognition and saw the rise of music and literature. In many respects, the 1960s and 1970s were the era of black history, and African Americans were equal while accepting the unique history of Africa and the United States. In doing so, the African American experience is shaped by people who refuse to be fascinated by rich cultural, economic, political and religious movements and larger mainstream cultures.
