Birth of the Calle Ocho Festival

The birth of the Calle Ocho Festival is in downtown Miami, Florida, and is open to all ethnic backgrounds and ages. This activity dates back to the end of the seventies. The festival began in 1977. It consists of two men Leslie Pantín Jr. Organized with Willy Bermello, they hope to start the project with Miami Herald and make the community more intimate. In the summer of 1977, during lunch at the Red Long-distance Motel, they decided to scribble behind the place mat and join the festival.

Calle Ocho is the last celebration of the Miami carnival in recent weeks. The festival is one of the largest festivals in the world, with more than 1 million visitors participating in the Calle Ocho event. This is a free street festival introducing Pan American culture.
