MOHANDAS KARAMCHAND GANDHI was born on October 2, 1869 in Porbandar, a small town on the west coast of India and was one of many small countries of Kathiawar. He was born into a middle class family of Vaisha caste. His grandfather became prime minister of Dewan or Porbandar and has been inherited by his son Karamchand, Mohandas' father.
