Nucleus - cell "brain" or control center. The nucleus is the membrane structure of the cell and plays two important roles in controlling the cell. The nucleus carries the genetic information of the cell and determines whether the organism grows, for example, into trees or humans, which dominates most cellular activities, including growth, metabolism, and breeding, by controlling protein synthesis. The presence of nuclei distinguishes more complex eukaryotic cells from plants and animals from simpler prokaryotic cells lacking nucleated bacteria and cyanobacteria.

Curiosity, if nothing else, should drive us to study cell biology; we need to understand cell biology to understand ourselves.
