BILLY BUDD, SAILOR HERMAN MELVILLE (1924) Billy Budd, Sailor is the last article of HERMAN MELVILLE. When Melville died in 1891, this is an unpublished NOVELLA. The story tells the story of Billy Bud, a 21-year-old sailor in the British merchant ship "right holder." Billy was forced to ride H. M. S. Bellitotent which means "the power of war" which was used to serve the French in 1797. Billy is one of several Melville characters depicted as "Handsome Sailor".
