Bergen-Belsen Camp

In this article we will explore Bergen-Belsen and his workers, camp system, liberation and trial camp. The infamous camp Bergen-Belsen was built in 1940 and named it "Jewishvirtuallibrary.org" (Northwest Germany, near Hannover) (jewishvirtuallibrary.org). Initially, "Camp was designed to accommodate 10,000 prisoners" (jewishvirtuallibrary.org) but Bergen-Berzen grew rapidly. SS - Hauptsturmführer Adolf Haas became the first commander of the Bergen - Belsen camp in the spring of 1943; SS - Hauptsturmführer Josef Kramer replaced him in December 1944. The number of Bergen-Belsen SS staff depends on the camp. SS destroyed many of the camp archives, including personnel files. In the autumn of 1945, 48 of Bergen-Versen's officials were tried in the British military court of Lüneburg, 37 of whom were party members, 11 were prisoners. The court sentenced 11 deaths to the defendants, including camp commander Josef Kramer. In addition, 19 defendants were found guilty, sentenced to prison, the court guilty of 14 people. On 12 December 1945, British military authorities executed Kramer and his co-defendant.

In April 1943, part of the Bergen-Belsen camp was succeeded by the SS Economic Management Headquarters (SS Wirtschafts-Verwaltungshauptamt; WVHA). Therefore, it became part of the concentration camp system managed by SS Schutzstaffel, but this is a special case. Originally designated as Zivilinterniertenlager ("People's Residence Camp"), the Geneva Convention was renamed Aufenthaltslager ("Campus Camp") in June 1943 to request that the previous facility be opened for inspection by the International Committee it was done.
