Beowulf begins with Hallthorg of Denmark in his hall Heorot. A hero is attacked by a monster called Glendell. Grendel killed many Danish people who fought and tried to kill him. Great Geat, Beowulf heard that Grendel brought great pain of Danes and King Hrothgar and gathered some best fighters to go to Denmark to defeat monsters. Beowulf arrived at Heorot, and King Hrothgar welcomed him and his people to his hall to fight Grendel. In the evening of Glendell's attack, Beowulf tried to fight him without armor or weapons. He clung to Glendell's arms and fell down. This wound led to the death of Glendel, and Beowulf became a hero and received many wonderful gifts. Everything seemed satisfactory until Glendell's mother began attacking Hero because of her son's death for revenge. She killed Eroshel, a close friend of Flosger, and fled to a swamp.
