Benefits to consensus decision making

Consensus decision is the process of building trust, creating ownership and commitment. An effective consensus process (consensus building) is comprehensive and appeals to all participants. An agreement decision will lead to better quality results, allowing teams and communities to move forward together to create the future together.

If the team needs high-quality decisions and strong follow-up assistance, they are willing to spend time making suggestions and plans to benefit from the agreement decision. It is a powerful process to have all team members participate in discussion and joint decision making.

The history of agreement decisions can be traced back to the earlier American indigenous community and Quaker's tradition. The consensus process has also been used in political campaigns, nonprofit organizations, communities of concern, workers' cooperatives. Recently, companies such as Mitsubishi, Levi Strauss & Co.
