Even if there is meat, it is expensive and eats on special occasions. In the state and most of the first world countries, meat is plentiful and may be cheaper than plant products. Mass production in the meat industry makes meat cheaper. An amazing fact is that "70% of the grain is given to animals" (Motavalli). The amount of grain to be put into an animal and the amount of meat produced are less than the grain. The same is true for freshwater. In the third world countries, we assume that food can provide food to the hungry community.
How about eating "better" meat from animals kept in meadows (not factory farms where almost all meat is derived). Or are not meat, local, organic, unnecessary antibiotics? Humanitarian, organic, and local meat products have advantages (although the "natural", "local", "pasture" labels are not well managed, but be careful). However, in order to really reduce environmental disasters in meat production, we have to limit the amount of meat above the meat. Studies have shown that cutting meat may have a greater impact than driving an energy efficient car or eating a complete local diet.
Most are not vegetarians, the reality is that we need a lot of meat. Over the past few decades, we have refined the technology to produce large amounts of inexpensive meat for human consumption during plant cultivation. Factory agriculture is the process of collecting farm animals to produce meat and animal products humanely and cheaply. Even in the United States alone, 9 billion chickens are killed each year, of which 350 million are used for egg laying. In Australia, more than 1 million chickens are slaughtered each day. Chicken is the most cultured animal on the planet. Only these amazing figures show that for breeding many animals definitely have a negative effect.
As inhumane industrial agriculture of animals has long been rooted in modern society, many of us are aware of the harsh and unethical situation behind the scenes. But we continue to consume more meat every day. why? Before the 20th century, food was scarce and expensive, and 5 pound chicken may cost more than $ 30. Industrialization and factory agriculture are regarded as solutions that increase food production and reduce management costs. But for many of us now this is because we like the great taste of the meat. Or, eating meat is just a norm for our family, we have never thought about it as it could cause inconvenience to food manufacturers. Because of the lack of efficient meat market in crops and fruits, food companies have come to meet our needs by producing more meat for these reasons. However, consumption of this meat is not sustainable.
