Sabino Alana, the founder of Basque nationalism, the so-called Godfather, believes that race is a better way of rejection, because of its primitive or invariant nature. "With excellent grammar and a good dictionary, you can restore the language even if no one talks - once the race is lost it can not be resurrected" (Barnes, 2013). Sabino Arana is a young middle class intellectual from the Basque Country. Interestingly, Alana proposed the idea of this movement when he lived in Catalonia, not in the Basque Country in 1883.
In Spain, regional teams, especially the Catalonia Football Team, the Basque National Football Team, and even the Galicia Football Team are fighting each other since 1915. Although officially not approved by FIFA, these regional teams still occasionally take part in friendly game with some national team players. Some autonomous governments and social sectors of the historical community (especially Catalonia and the Basque Country) call their regional teams their national team and are willing to claim participation in international competition.
Spain is composed of 17 autonomous communities, but since the "nation" that has been established for a long time is equated with ourselves, we often have the most powerful internal forces. These historical areas are Catalonia, Basque Country, Andalusia and Galicia. The history of these areas dates back to the beginning of the 20th century and they are part of the struggle against the repression of the Spanish national state and the repression of the dictatorship. Ribera and Franco's dictatorship regime from 1923 to 1939 and 1939 to 1973, respectively, constrained regionalism in the non-Castile region of this country. Duke and Crolley (1996) argued that an organization like the Catalonists is the only resource for football to release their "oppressed nationalism" and as a result, "Socio" to participate in the Barcelona Football Club (Members) has increased significantly. Bairner (1994) explained football as a metaphor of Catalan Culture tradition, as Camp de les Corts, and later as a symbol of Nou Camp, Catalonia's nationalism
What is Spanish? What is Catalan? Rosalia Martinez (38 years old) considers her own national identity as complicated. Her father comes from Galicia, her mother is from Catalunya, her mother comes from Catalonia and Aragon. "My idea of Spanish is born of mixed regions," she said. "It is to share the language and identity of the area, my parents teach Spanish, we speak Galician at home, my grandmother once sang a Catalan song." Identity
