Barrio Boy written by Ernesto Galarza is an amazing novel about his childhood story. This book was originally published in 1971 and later published by the University of Notre Dame Press in 1991. It begins with a poor Mexican village, Jalcocotan, located in the California Gulf and the southern part of the Pacific Ocean. The Mexican revolution caused great confusion and Galaza and his family were forced to leave this little village for safety. They eventually moved to a nearby city, but it was not affected by a revolutionary conflict. This makes his family difficult to experience the move, not to mention the difficulty of adapting to fast-paced cities. He eventually settled in Sacramento, California, where the newly discovered experience helped create a deeper outlook for life. The New York Book Review explains this memoir as "long and lively", but I feel that inconsistency is lacking.
