Band 8 Essay: Public libraries are no longer required because of the internet

Due to the availability of information on the Internet, public libraries are no longer needed. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

In many cases, public libraries are considered to be redundant due to the ease of use of online information. But I absolutely disagree with this idea.

Certainly, all the information known to humans is currently available on the internet. Internet accessibility has also improved over the years. However, this does not mean that public libraries are no longer needed.

The library is not just a place to access books and information. They are also used for other purposes. For example, this library provides a quiet environment for reading and learning. Distraction of everyday life may interfere with the enjoyment of reading. The library provides a solution to this problem. There is also a motivation to finish reading when you are in an environment that everyone is reading. Even if you can find the same reading online, this might be impossible at home.

The Internet is an enormous amount of information, but unless you know what you are looking for, it is almost impossible to find related information online. On the other hand, libraries facilitate research by grouping books on specific topics. Even if you do not know anything about a particular topic, you can find information about that topic. Today's libraries also provide access to computers and tablets, so users can search online for more information on topics as they are needed.

Internet accessibility may have improved over the years, but millions of people still can not access the Internet. Public libraries are their only source of information. If the library is going to die, they will have problems.

Overall, despite all the information on the web, libraries are still important as they provide an environment that contributes to reading and learning.
