The sin that Aylmer showed through the story was related to the birthplace of Georgia. Elmer became egotistic in her behavior and thought, regardless of her own problem, but his wife's imperfection was a problem. Elmer removed the freedom and confidence of Georgina who revealed his sin because of immoral and impulsive desire for perfection. First, Before marrying Elmer was not bothered by Georgiana's cheek birthday mark.

Because Elmer is the reason for Georgian's death, he can be regarded as a villain of the story. His sin comes from not being able to accept the small drawbacks of Georgia. But some people think that Elmer should not be considered a villain, as Georgiana can forgive him. As Napier said, "In this attitude, his most sincere evidence is that Georgiana never retreats from his or his experiments, and high and pure feelings" (Napier)

By reviewing Georgiana's remarks, we should forgive his sins and remove his malice (Napier). Mr. Ross Bardessarini was able to summarize Airmer's intention in her article. It causes loss of cause ("Baldessarini"). This statement shows that Ay must make everything perfect by default. Even though they are necessary for death, he can not accept incompleteness.

Nobody is perfect. Perfection is a dream that Elmer strives to achieve. Birthmark represents Georgiana's deadly and sinful abilities. Elmer eventually died because Georgiana lost immortality ability. Hawthorne describes the contemporary problem in detail, but even if nature is not perfect, all living things from nature can not be perfect. Birthmark refers to life, death, beauty, and disgust, all of which are fatal flaws that nature imposes on her creation.
