Yakye Axa is an indigenous community that is part of the large Enxet Sur people living in the remote Chaco district of Paraguay. For generations, members of the Yakye Axa community hunted and cultivated the ancestral land of Chaco. Today, however, they are in extreme poverty, live in huts along highways and are being driven out of traditional land. Like indigenous peoples all over the world, Yakye Axa works hard to remove their land from them and to regain it. Chaco is a vulnerable and unique ecosystem inhabited by plants and animals that can not be seen elsewhere on the planet, and nearly half of Paraguay's indigenous people live. Unfortunately for Aboriginal people large soybean producers and ranchers occupied the land and quickly destroyed Chaco. Every day, about 2 square miles of forest are destroyed to the ground.
