The exercise environment is important for the risk and prevention of mental health disorders. The unique cause of stress is often accompanied by experience as a student athlete. Resources of the sports environment potentially reduce stress and encourage individuals who are trying to experience or who are at risk of developing a mental disorder. A student athlete can benefit from a sports family, with teammates and coaches who meet each day. Many students entering college have the risk of isolation without finding cooperative communities, but college students often incorporate communities from the moment they enter the campus.

The student athlete group can take various forms. The focus of this resource is to help university athletes and track and field staff decide how to organize a group of LGBT QA student athletes that best fits the needs and benefits of university student athletes.
