As I Lay Dying

William Faulkner was born in New Albany, Michigan, where he dropped out of high school and forced him to work with his grandfather. In 1925 Faulkner moved to New Orleans and worked as a journalist where he met a famous short story writer, American Sherwood Andersen. Anderson made Faulkner believe that writing down the people and places he can identify improves his career as a writer. After visiting Europe, Faulkner began writing a fictitious Yokna Patafa County representing Lafayette County, Mississippi.
