Due to lack of reliability and other related psychological problems, the Varsity team hampered synchronizing their boats, even if they were the best personal performers. After the spring vacation, members of the university team became unhappy and criticized each other. These actions are an early sign of lack of trust and need to be dealt with immediately. Trust is essential for the crew. It is important for team members to believe that other people correct the mistake and return the boat to balance and maximum speed (Snook & Polzer, 2004).
Colonel Stas Preczewski, well known as P Coach, is an army coach of the US military academy at West Point. He is responsible for managing two rowing teams for the 2000m race. They are a university team and a junior team (JV), each with eight rowers. A 2000 meter race is considered to be very tough and can be compared with two basketball games. Boating is very tiring, so we need a lot of endurance and power to succeed. It is also important to focus on the psychological aspect of sports. According to a study conducted by the US Olympic Committee, a coach with at least four years' experience believes that the psychological aspect should focus on part of the staff who leads to success and victory. Team work is essential for all rowers. Every crew member must also trust each other
The army school team is a group of dysfunction. You can see that it is involved in the team development storm. In other words, they have not reached the stage of Norman, and the trust between the members is basically realized. The coach's efforts to identify weak links do not affect the destructive conflict the organization is brewing. As evidenced by military officials - individuals are frustrated and inefficient due to conflict - some researchers recommend consulting or simply "listening and understanding". Ventilating your own feelings to people helps alleviate frustration and promote problem solving. Unfortunately, in front of the national team, the problem facing the university team was too late to solve.
