As someone else studied in other areas of Excelsior OWL, some people think that someone is writing a form of discussion, or at least is convincing. After all, even if you write a letter or rich article, you secretly will try to persuade the audience to care about what you are talking about. However, the formal discussion of academic papers is concrete.

You may have been assigned convincing papers in the past, but you do not need to use the formal discussion structure. It is important to note that some professors distinguish between persuasive writing and discussive writing. Although persuasive writing can be used as a broader term for persuasion, argumentative writing is often used as a more specific term for writing according to a particular discussion structure.
