Arbutus

Arbutus, also known as the Pacific Madrone, has a unique red bark, thick waxy leaves, and beautiful twisted stems that can stretch up to 30 meters. It is one evergreen broadleaf tree in Canada, which can be 1 meter on base.

This tree grew from Mexico to the southern part of Vancouver Island, and mainly grows on sunny rocky coasts and outcrops. It is often known that with Douglas fir, it usually grows within 1.5 km from the ocean. In BC, this plant was found in Georgia 's Depression Ecoprovins.

Bayberry blooms white flowers in the spring, bright red fruits in the late summer and autumn. It grows a layer of bark every year and peels off the old layer. The new green bark can be used for photosynthesis, which means that it can make its own food.

Arbutus trees have traditionally been used for canes and their fruits to decorate necklaces and beads. Leaves of bamboo and bamboo have medical uses such as cold, stomach problems, tuberculosis.

Metchosin's Witty's Lagoon Regional Park has a very large bamboo grove. The beach trail begins next to the nature center and takes hikers to one of the largest and oldest bamboo groves in the area.

It is also known as Madrona or Madrone native to the western coastal region of North America. It is very difficult to transplant and I like to rock the area south facing the sun.
