In today's academic and specialized areas, the importance of geographic information systems (GIS) is hardly understood. More experts and scholars, such as city planners, civil engineers, geographers, space economists, sociologists, environmental scientists, criminal justice specialists, political scientists, etc. use GIS. It is therefore very important to understand the theory and application of GIS in our education, vocational research and research. "Application of geographical information system" introduces research results that explain the application of GIS in various fields of social science. The need for reliable data information has contributed to the application of geographic information systems (GIS) in transportation systems and made it easier (Thill, 2000). The Geographic Information System for Transportation (GIS - T) is a specific expression covering all the activities of GIS in some aspects of traffic planning and management (Curtin et al., 2003). These elements include location reference methods, spatiotemporal data structures, multiple representations of transport data, and multiple topology representations. In the existing GIS - T data model, ESRI 's GIS - T data model is CTP' s famous traffic GIS data model (Shaopei Chen, Jianjun Tan, Christophe Claramunt and Cyril Ray, 2009). The ESRI transport data model was developed by ESRI's transport industry user, consultant, ESRI business partner and group of scholars (ESRI, 2007).

Geographic Information System (GIS) is an integrated spatial information system with functions to store, manage, analyze, display, and use geographic information. Meteorological data, in most cases, contains spatial information such as vertical distance (or atmospheric pressure level) from the ground, latitude, longitude and so on. It is best to use GIS technology to process weather data. Since 2008, the Hong Kong Observatory has used GIS technology to show the estimated rainfall distribution in the Pearl River Delta region including Hong Kong within the next two hours (Figure 1). With the geospatial information display software, users can configure the zoom in, zoom out, and panorama view operations to grasp the spatial extent of the rain area.

GIS provides tools for water experts to help evaluate the sequence or "hierarchy" of information and to perform tasks from basin planning to global climate change assessment.
