January 22, 1944 The sun is shining, and a quiet wind is blowing on the beach of Anzio. Anxious silence is the silence before the storm. In the next few days the beach will be made up of more than 30,000 allies. In the coming months the most bloody battle of the whole war will be seen on this beach. In the last few months along the Gustav line, German commander Albert Kesselring has stopped the attempt by the Allies to advance in Cassino and is connected to two factions and is stalled. There was a deadlock.
(1944). In the summer of 1944, the Italian campaign entered the shadow of the monarch. On May 18th, the Fifth Army of Clark, including French, Polish, and American, occupied Monte Cassino. Five days later, because the seaside of Anzio was divided, the German army was obliged to abandon the entire Gustav line. The distance from Rome to the north is going well, but the split between the United States and France will soon be withdrawn due to the invasion of southern France, so it will lose momentum. In the second week of August, after the eastern Ancona and the Florence on the west coast, the Allies were in the German Gothic line. The attack in the second half of this month demolished the Gothic route but could not pass through the Po River Valley in three months and stopped in the mountain during the winter.
In Anzio, the Germans called the first special forces "devil's journey." They are called "black" devils as members of the brigade brushed their faces with black boots so they could do a secret strategy in the dark. During the period in Anzio, the first SSF conducted a 99-day battle without any assurance. Also, in Anzio, the first SSF used their trademark sticker; during a night patrol the soldier would carry a unit patch and a sticker depicting a slogan written in German. It is translated as "the worst future". In fact, the literal translation is "a thick end is approaching", I guess that a greater force is coming and stick these stickers to the body and fortress of Germany. The lost members of Canadian and American special forces are buried in Commonwealth Anzio war cemetery located in the east of Anzio and American cemetery.
