The boy expressed his feelings and grieved with a dream. With fear and confusion, I just woke up in my mind. Antonio 's life is full of dreams to tell future events, which will also influence Antonio' s belief in religion and innocence. Many of Antonio's dreams are a forerunner of future events.

His mother wanted him to be a pastor and his father wanted him to explore and be free; then Ultima. The old lady Ultima who used the power of the grassland and the power of magic came to Irano to visit Antonio and his family. Together with her, she brought her magic, her point of view, and a view of life - she chose to give these to Antonio before she died.
Blessing me, Ultima of Rudolph Anaya talked about the story of a young Mexican American boy, Antonio Mares' s adult trying to solve many of his fate, life and death, many problems about good and evil I will talk. Ultima living with Antonio became his guard and his teacher. Through Ultima 's wisdom Antonio learned that the world has different powers from his beliefs of Catholic faith. Ultima explained to Antonio, "The tragic result of life can be overcome by the magic power of the human heart" (Anaya 237). Ultima showed to Antonio how to experience the magic of life with his mind instead of eyes. For the first time, he thought that this river was not a terrible thing but a source of life. "I have been afraid of the frightening existence of the river all the time, although this is the soul of the river, I understand that my spirit is shared with all spirits through her" (15)
