Anti-Depressant Medication: Prozac

Prozac belongs to a group of drugs categorized by chemists as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (Ogbru, n.d.), which is the trade name of fluoxetine, a commonly used antidepressant. It is provided in various forms such as delayed release of capsules, short films and long acting tablets, and oral solutions. Other product names of fluoxetine are Rapiflux, Sarafem, and Selfemra. Previous tricyclic antidepressants (TCA) act on three different neurotransmitters, dopamine, serotonin, norepinephrine, which are related to human emotions.

For example, in studies of antidepressants it is a secret that many medications such as Prozac, Zoloft, Effexor and others are tested against placebo (sugar pills that look like actual drugs). Researchers discovered that several participants treated sugar pills in the same way as real medicines.
