Ansel Adams Ansel Easton Adams was born in San Francisco in 1902 and is the only child of Charles and Olive Adams. He grew up in a house overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge and had a strong interest in beauty. By 1908, Adams was a very curious and talented child, began to travel erratically, mostly unsuccessfully through the solid structure of the public school system. In 1914, Adams taught himself a piano and performed it outstandingly in his serious music research, but he despised the rules of general education and was taken away from school.
