A brutal battle at the border brought a negative impression on Mexican people and their government. In 1836 the state of Texas became independent by the Velasco Treaty, but the Mexicans claimed that this document is illegal. The hostile relationship between Texas and Mexico urged Texas to join the United States. On 4th July 1845, Congress approved the consolidation of Texas (Lee, Roger). Because Mexico blocked all diplomatic relations with the United States (Mint, Steven) for the expulsion of the American ambassador, the merger vote in Mexico caused great anger.
