In this study, the effect of ultraviolet type A (UVA) on tensile properties of elastic chain was investigated. UVA light irradiation is used as a model for artificial aging and simulates long term storage of elastic chains

Tensile strength (n = 60) was measured after exposing Ormco, Forestdent and 3 M chains to UVA light for 0, 2, 3 and 4 weeks.

Force decay was measured using chains exposed on days 5, 10 and 14 (n = 60). The chains were then stretched at a fixed distance and the resulting force was measured at 0, 1, 24 h and 7, 14, 21 and 28 days. This test simulates the clinical situation of prestretching of elastic chains and subsequent shortening.

Tensile strength is statistically significant and is directly related to the duration of ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation. The Forestadent chain has the second highest value of the "as is" product, with the lowest degradation, showing the most consistent value over time. Ormco shows "receiving" and shows the lowest value after UV irradiation; 3M chain shows maximum tensile strength loss

The attenuation of power is also very different. Ultraviolet rays of more than 10 days seem to indicate "watershed" between products: 3 M occupies the majority of survivors, and the Forestat chain depends on when the chain stretches, but some survival I have a person.
