Any exercise plan comes from the brain. The main part of the brain involved in the initiation and control of autonomous movement is the primary motor cortex. Motor neurons in the brain are called upper motor neurons (UMN), motor neurons in the brainstem and spinal cord are called lower motor neurons (LMN). UMN can not leave the CNS; therefore, they must be associated with axons that can leave the LMN synapse of the central nervous system, which allows them to synapse with whole body muscles .

Lou Gehrig disease or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is dyskinesia affecting the motor neuron pathway of the central nervous system. Muscle atrophy means that body muscles have lost nutrition. The lateral means that it affects the side of the spinal cord and the side of the spinal cord is also known as the cortical spinal cord region of the spinal cord with a motor neuron pathway. Sclerosis means scarring or hardening instead of healthy nerves. The affected brain is partly located in the cerebral cortex.

The name of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis comes from Greek. "A" in muscle atrophy means "no", "Myo" means muscle, "nutrition" means nutrition. Literally, "There is no muscle nutrition." When muscles contract, muscle is wasted. "Side" identifies areas within the human spine where a portion of neurons controlling the signal and muscle are located. As the region deteriorates, it causes hardening ("hardening") of the region. (Www.alsa.org) As motor neurons degenerate, they no longer send impulses to the muscles that normally cause muscle movement. The first signs and symptoms of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis tend to be overlooked as they are less noticeable. The first few symptoms include stiffness, cramping, muscle cramps, weakness. Victims of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis may have language disabilities that are difficult to chew and swallow later.

In the 1960 's, a young physicist named Stephen Hawking encountered a big problem: he was supposed to die. He was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (often called Lou Gehrig disease) - in most cases it will be fatal within a few years after symptoms appear. When his symptoms stabilized in a few years Hawking decided to concentrate on the physical field which was not thoroughly studied: the intersection of quantum physics and gravity. Hawking eventually became one of the very rare patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and the ultimate cost was limited to the wheelchair and was mainly transmitted through the computer. His research on black holes - and the research of several other physicists - opened up a new field of quantum gravity research.
