American enlightenment was influenced by European enlightenment of the 17th century and its American philosophy. According to James McGregor Burns, the spirit of enlightenment in America is a practical and useful form of enlightenment in the lives of the country and its people.
The foundation of the US government is in the enlightenment of Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries.
