Abstract This article examines American traditions and how they are built and preserved. Specifically, discuss the traditional meetings called family, class and school reunion, and consider ways to enhance social networks. I remind the reader about the role of reunion in permanent memory and collective knowledge transmission. The number of family reunion is thought to have decreased in the 1990s, but it is recovering (Baxter, 2005); this is thought to be caused by social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace.

The experience of my first family gathering symbolizes the tradition that appeared in the States and is now changing in several important ways. For African Americans the world has changed rapidly, and responsibility for education is now the responsibility of men and women who grew at different times. The "old educators" at the center of the family's first official reunion are now dead and their roles have been handed over to me and other people of my age. As a member of the new generation elders, I think it is very difficult to stand at the base of my parents and grandparents. The reunion of the first family was organized around the death of relatives of the seniors who lived long in the wealthy and the family gathered to protect the history and to absorb the power and power of our ancestors
