Slavery in the United States is similar to Russian serfdom. Workers are driven to the bottom of the social class, slaves have no social mobility and slaves are related to the land they work on. In the Americas, Native American slaves are at the bottom of the social class. The mixture of different ethnic groups also leads to further naming of the class between slaves. Similarly, on Russian farms, serfs are at the lowest level and their rights are very limited, so they almost seem slaves to the landlord.
In medieval European agricultural land, farmers survived by cultivating the land, so one of the tenant farmers was involved in the estate's land and his landlord's will. Lord, I compare the serfdom system of the Russian empire with American slavery because in the Russian 18th and 17th centuries the noble Dvoryanstvo had the power to do everything with serfs. This power, as well as the state slave owner in the southern United States, was in the 18th and 19th centuries. The purpose of this article is to show the fundamental difference between American and Russian society, but ironically, the two contain unnatural people under tragic circumstances. Then there is a research problem; what are the similarities and differences between US slavery and Russian empire's serfdom?
Russian serfs experience is in contrast to particularly good research. Russian serfs historically are closer to American slaves than other regional farmers in Europe. The relationship with their land is not so noble. They are mostly cruelly abused by landlords - informal "you" were reserved for animals and children (it is the same as blacks were once insulted as "boys"). Yup. The historian Orlando Fijge called it "the rights of nostalgia", allowing aristocrats and gentlemen to freely get along with the calves. Serfs are often military and long-term workers who are questioning whether they rarely understand or do come back in the name of a career that they do not care. At the same time, since slavery in South America is very deadly for slaves, we need to continually replenish them from the mainland. On the other hand, North American slaves are increasingly populated naturally.
