Detroit, America's great comeback city. On May 5, 2013, on behalf of Detroit that began nationwide in July last year, this slogan was chosen as a new slogan. Why did Detroit come back? When Henry Ford's Dearborn plant opened in 1913, Detroit spent the age of mass production. Most of the subsequent developments are closely related to the automobile industry. The social position of the city reflects a strong racially differentiated labor organization within the industry.
As a result, cities in the U.S. are currently faced with a reduction in tax base and economic trauma, and cities are increasingly poor settlements. Poverty and racial discrimination are the most fundamental problems that our city faces. Most of the 38 million poor people in the United States live in our city, and they are increasingly concentrated in slums and Barrios. In 1980, 4 million poor people lived in the slum - 9 out of the total poor people in the US. Their poverty comes from high unemployment rates and low wages, but their focus is on racial discrimination. 62% of non-Hispanic Americans live in more than 60% of blacks. 40% of Hispanic population live in the area where more than 60% of Hispanic residents live. More than 2 out of 3 American white people live in the white community. Blacks and Hispanic poor people are more likely to live in poorer communities than white poor
Austin is one of America's most unequal cities. In other words, Austin's African-Americans population is decreasing despite being the country's fastest growing city. Indeed, the educational, economic and health results of African Americans and Hispanics are much lower than that of the whole city. The creative class described by Richard Florida is the "class of workers who are jobs to create meaningful new forms" which is the main driving force for Austin and the world's economic prosperity. Not only engineers and scientists, "Design, education, art, music, entertainment, its economic function is to create new ideas, new technologies and / or creative content" (Florida, 2002, Also see page 8). )
