Alvin Ailey

Alvin Ailey Alvin Ailey was born in Rogers, Texas on January 5, 1931. His family is a very religious family. He joined the Sunday School and the Baptist Youth League church. The school currently trains more than 3,500 dancers every year. In 1970 the school moved to Manhattan and in 1984 Dennis Jefferson served as the director. Under her guidance, the school cooperated with Fordham University and started a bachelor of art in 1998. A few years later, the school moved to the Joan Weir Dance Center. Dennis Jefferson died in 2010, Tracy Inman and Melanie Par are co-directors. A few years later in 2012, many years of art director Sylvia Waters retired, deputy director Troy Powell took over the artistic director.

Alvin Ailey is a student of Lester Horton, Bella Lewitzky, later Martha Graham and has been active for several years in concerts and theaters.
