Alton Glenn Miller Alton Glenn Miller was born on March 1, 1904. To Elmer and Mattie Lou Miller. He was born in a town called Clarinda in southwestern Iowa. When Glen raised his first shout, Clarinda heard his first "moonlight serenade". Glenn's first serenade has been sung by children for centuries and is not particularly unique as it has heard barley on South 16th Street. But his second month in Serenade was unique, he became the theme song of his number one big band and heard all over the world.
Perhaps one of the most famous band leaders in the swing era is Glen Miller. As a full time trumpet player, Miller traveled with many orchestras, found a job with Ben Polac, and Ben Pollack also recruited Benny Goodman. After playing with pollack and Goodman, Miller moved to New York and played with brothers Dorsey. In 1934, Glenn Miller became the music director of his band. The first "Glenn Miller Orchestra" broke up early and was replaced by the second orchestra. In 1939, Glenn Miller's band played "Tuxedo Junction", "Pennsylvania 6-5000", and infamous "In the Mood". Miller band broke records of record sales and concert attendance, and it became a symbol of many erasures of listeners. Miller was born in Iowa in 1904 and was working as a trombone player for many recordings before he founded his band in 1937. Like other band leaders, his popularity was brought about by live radio stations in hotels and dance halls. The style developed by Glen Miller not only attracts crowd audiences, it also attracts small town and middle-western audiences. Tony Stralagrosi was the creator of The Strand's Glenn Miller Orchestra presentation, played a trumpet with Southside Johnny and Asbury Jukes and touring with Bruce Springsteen.
