Alternative Energy in the United States: Why Biofuels are not a Sustainable Alternative

Americans are increasingly interested in alternative sources of fuel against the background of the current Iraq war, terror concerns, rising fuel prices and increasing environmental awareness. The two main options currently under consideration are biodiesel and ethanol. Biodiesel and ethanol are alcohol based fuel substitutes made from natural resources and are often referred to as "green fuels". One of today's famous green fuel supporter is a partner of singer Willie Nelson, Willie Nelson biodiesel, also known as BioWillie.

Algae fuel, algal biofuel, or algal oil is a substitute for liquid fossil fuels that use algae as a source of energy-rich oil. In addition, algal fuel is well known as an alternative to biofuel sources such as corn and sugarcane. There are also companies and government agencies that are funding efforts to reduce capital and operational costs and make commercially viable commercial production of algal fuel commercially feasible. Like fossil fuels, algae fuel releases carbon dioxide when burned, but unlike fossil fuels, when growing from algae or plants, it releases only carbon dioxide removed from the atmosphere by photosynthesis. The energy crisis and the global food crisis have triggered interest in algae (agricultural algae) to use biodiesel and other biofuels on land not suitable for agriculture. Due to the high capital cost and operational cost, algae cost more per unit mass than other second generation biofuel crops, but argues that fuel production per unit area will increase 10 to 100 times

Unexpected competitors have appeared in exploring alternative biofuels and algae. One acre biofuel made from algae can generate up to 30 times the energy of traditional crops. Biofuel prices are still high, but rarity and rising supply-demand relations will lead to higher fossil fuel prices and will enhance the competitiveness of biofuel prices. Biofuels include biodiesel, petroleum substitutes, green diesel, etc. They are made from algae and other plants. Other renewable resources include oxygen and solar energy. Wind and water can also be used to make renewable energy. For example, a windmill converts it to energy using wind's natural energy.
