Esmeralda Santiago's autobiography "Almost A Woman" has many cultural differences. In this respect, I feel that she is alienated from New York or other parts of the United States. When Esmeralda was 13 years old, she and her family moved from Puerto Rico to New York. She does not know English and I do not know what American culture is like. To make up for her ignorance of American culture, she is poor, making her like a more abandoned person. When she grew up in America, most people combined her with the only Latin that they have ever met They came from Rita Moreno who came from Desu Arnaz and West Side Story who loves Lucy .

When I was a Puerto Rican, I was an autobiographist written in 1993 by the Puerto Rican Esmeralda Santiago. This is the first part of the three parts, followed by Almost a Woman and The Turkish Lover. The first book first explains San Diego's life in Puerto Rico. It details her situation where her mother took her brothers and sisters to New York. The second part of this book explains the initial adjustment of American life in San Diego. This memoir ends with the audition of Performing Arts High School in San Diego, New York.
