This explanation is given by one author of Housman's most comprehensive biographies. Like many poets in his era, he accepted the idea of a romantic era and combined them with classical thoughts. Most of his poems are dark, reflecting his childhood tragedy. His style clearly shows obsession with death, his manga poems, ancient Greek and Roman themes, eloquence of romanticism and a simple fusion of British countryside, and even sharp criticism.
