Alexander Calder

Alexander Calder is one of the most innovative and ingenious American artists of the 20th century. In 1926, Calder arrived in Paris and worked on a project called circus. And it occupied him for over 5 years. This includes wires, cloth, wood, cork, labels, fragments of metal pieces, characters and animals made of rubber sheets. Calder moved his little theater to the trunk and played it for his friends. Alexander Calder was born in Lawton, a suburb of Philadelphia on July 22, 1898, his father Alexander Sterling Calder and his grandfather, Alexander Millina Coulder, was named Alexander. Since all three Kurds were named Alexander, they needed something to distinguish each other, so the youngest Alexander developed a nickname Sandy. He put on a nickname as it looks like Santa Claus wearing a flannel shirt and a loose and relaxing khaki clown.

Alexander "Sandy" Calder was born in Lawton, PA in 1898. But his actual birthday is still a source of confusion. According to Calder's mother, Nanette (néeLederer), Calder was born on August 22, but his certificate at Philadelphia City Hall was based on a handwritten ledger issued on July 22. When Calder's family knew about birth certificates, they reaffirmed that municipal officials made a mistake. Calder's grandfather, sculptor Alexander Mirkur moved to Philadelphia in 1868, was born in Scotland, and is known for the huge statue of William Penn on Philadelphia City Hall. His father Alexander Stirling Calder was a famous sculptor and founded many public facilities. Most of it was in the nearby Philadelphia. Calder's mother is a professional portrait painter who studied at Academy Julien and Sorbonne in Paris from 1888 to 1893.

Sandy's grandfather has six children, one is Sandy's father, Alexander Stirling Calder. Alexander Sterling Calder is also a wonderful sculptor. Sterling seems more complicated about his work and wishes his sculptor to become more realistic. But before Sandy appeared, the name of Calder remained unrelated to art. Sandy is the youngest of his family. He has a 2 year old sister, Peggy. As you know, his father is Alexander Stirling Calder and his mother, Nanette Calder. When Sandy was three years old, his mother and father sold their house in Lawton and moved to an apartment in Philadelphia. When Sandy was very young, his mother and his father often told him to pose for them, and they would sculpture. He is often naked like the sculpture "The Man Cub".
