Alexander Calder is one of the most innovative and ingenious American artists of the 20th century. In 1926, Calder arrived in Paris and worked on a project called circus. Alexander Calder was born in Lawton, a suburb of Philadelphia on July 22, 1898, his father Alexander Sterling Calder and his grandfather, Alexander Millina Coulder, was named Alexander. Since all three Kurds were named Alexander, they needed something to distinguish each other, so the youngest Alexander developed a nickname Sandy. His father Alexander Stirling Calder was a famous sculptor and founded many public facilities. Most of it was in the nearby Philadelphia. Calder's mother is a professional portrait painter who studied at Academy Julien and Sorbonne in Paris from 1888 to 1893.
