Air transport services

Air transport services comply with certain appendices of the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS). This annex excludes most of the air traffic services, ie services directly related to traffic rights and traffic, from contracts. However, the Service Trade Council regularly reviews these services and considers that GATS may be further applied to the industry. The first review took place in 2000 - 2003. The second review is in progress. In preparation for the second review, the WTO Secretariat developed a quantitative aviation service contract review (QUASAR) database and methodology to globally assess the degree of liberalization achieved by the aviation transport sector.
