Prior to the Civil War, African Americans were considered second grade. They lack the freedom and equality they want. For African Americans, the civil war is a war of liberation. Contrary to what African Americans think, southern people think this war is an episode of their rescue trip. The southern lands may have been destroyed and exhausted, but the south insists that their ethnic order is not disrupted. For most people, the goal of the era of reconstruction is to completely restore alliance and for some people to give liberation and freedom to former slaves.
African-American role in reconstruction African-Americans looking for ally during the reconstruction are another important focus. Students must understand that African Americans are actively participating in rebuilding. They are not fraud for northern politicians. They are not frightened by white people anymore. This means that African Americans have never definitively dominated the reconstruction. Regardless of their goal, they all need a friend. Taking this basic reality into account, students are required to identify key stakeholders in reconstruction. I ask the students to list the list of groups in American society with great interest / function for reconstruction. Usually, students identify the protagonists as Caucasian northerners, Caucasian southern people, and black people. Then I broke these groups further by the students. Do all the white Northern people have the same attitude toward black people? Are they white white people?
During the reconstruction period of African Americans after the reconstruction, there were differences in social problems in America, victory during the presidential election in the meantime, and suffered losses due to these problems. How does the development of African-Americans cause changes in politics, economics, education and social conditions to shape their future and the future of the United States? (Dixon, 2000) South will try to recover from civil war, including deciding how to deal with newly released people.
In the south, the period of rebuilding was a period of confusion and readjustment. Southern Caucasians want to keep African-Americans quasi-slave, expand civil rights, and decisively reject social equality. On the other hand, African Americans want full freedom, and most importantly they desire their land. Inevitably, conflicts occur frequently. Some people have caused ethnic riots, but terrorist acts against African-American leaders are more common. During this confusion, whites and blacks in the south began looking for ways to make a living by returning their farms to operation. In fact, the most important development in the era of reconstruction is not a widely announced political competition, but a slow, little perceptible change in the southern society.
