African American Colonial Ways of Life

Introduction to African-American colonial lifestyle: When the settlement of the new world began, there was a conflict between European, African and American cultures, all of them faced difficulties. European and African Americans do not have the skills of survival and you can see immediately that trading with Indians is a means of survival and benefit. For Native Americans, this interaction brought them to many diseases the colonists brought from the UK. And it has greatly reduced the number of Native Americans.

Meanwhile, Africans endured colonialism (aka slavery), which raised new doubts. For slavery and colonialism, relations between Africans and African Americans / blacks have become nervous. The majority of this tension is due to conflicts and stereotype media depictions on the ideal spread of the euro-centric idealism between the two groups. In most cases, many members of both groups considers themselves blacks, but sometimes the African descendants who are enslaved in the United States think they are not Africans. However, many African Americans accept their African heritage and travel to Africa to learn more about their ancestors.

HIST-230. African-American history The 3 hour course examines the experience of African-Americans in the United States and how these experiences affect American lives. Using the primary and secondary materials, the course depicts an African American journey from colonial American slavery to the 21st century. This course will conclude the discussion on contemporary issues in the life of African Americans. HIST-275. Writing Intensive Course: Professional Writing and Method. 3 hours The purpose of this course is to introduce the method and writing skills necessary for success in selected subjects to students in history. Course writing tasks are designed to help students develop data sources, evaluate books and write historical papers useful to students in other professional programs.

This course is an undergraduate seminar in the history of African Americans from American colonial period to civil war. Students are studied about various historical topics and students have the opportunity to explore relevant research topics below. Slavery and domestic trade across the Atlantic Ocean, colonial and pre-war slavery, African American and Revolutionary War, African American and Civil War. Precondition (prerequisite): AFS 219. This course is an African American History Undergraduate seminar from 1865 to the present. Students are reviewed on various historical topics and the students have the opportunity to explore research topics related to rebuilding, Jim Crow Times, Booker T. Washington, and WB.
