"About Men" by Gretel Ehrlich talks about male stereotypes and the appearance of real people. For men, it is a non-fiction article Gretel Ehrlich wrote in her book The Solace of Open Spaces. Through an article written in 1985, Ehrlich reflects her experience in pastures while living in New York and how she maintains the image of the cowboy. In this article she explains the less noticeable qualities of this famous cowboy character and identifies some very special qualities that have never been noticed in movies and novels. Ehrlich wrote from her experience and observation that she thought it was a real picture of a cowboy. For us, for us Ehrlich is a hero as a heroic image.
