Abina Mansha, A Slave

Abina Mansha was a female slave and lived in Assante, but in 1876 her husband Yawawhah sold to England's Gold Coast colony to Guinea Edou.

Most people's voices and stories like her are members of the most marginalized group in society and are often lost, forgotten, and ignored. Abina is a poor African woman. She can not become a "manufacturer" of history. Indeed, for more than 125 years she is not part of our collective memory. We taught the king and the dictator; we taught President, war and wonderful historical power. Most of us do not teach ordinary people like Avina.
