A visit to the World Heritage Site of Durham Cathedral must be "a model of architectural or architectural ensemble". According to the guidelines of the World Heritage Committee or statements of the International Council on monuments and ruins, it must be "the most important building in history". Durham reached the standard and was registered as a World Heritage site in 1996. I think that Durham Cathedral became a world heritage because it shows the example of the first rib cabinet outside the Italy and the original flying buttress.
Durham Cathedral is located in Durham, England. (See Appendix A) The cathedral outperformed all other sacred buildings in the UK in its beautiful surroundings; it is not as big as anything else in the UK, but its glory is incomparable. Durham Cathedral occupies the top of the towering peninsula surrounding the Sur river. At that point, horn is almost island. The resulting high plains are surrounded by steep rocks and trees on slopes that extend to the edge of the river. (See Appendix F) This strange location greatly enhances the amazing effect and magnificence of its overall appearance. (Durham's history, topography and catalog, Whellan, London, 1894)
Durham I grew up has a long history. The magnificent cathedral of Durham, built as the Holy Land of St. Cuthbert in the 11th century, the Norman Castle of the city, the wall of Hadrian, the Hexham Abbey and Alnwick Castle are in front of you. . On the weekend, I explored other historic places and took a walk in Lake District and Northumbria. It gave me great enthusiasm for North history. I know that I will be a desperate scholar. However, when I worked as a graduate school internship library librarian at the Corpus Christi library from 2008 to 2009, I noticed that the library could also be a classroom - I can understand my understanding of the medieval manuscript culture I will. Combine with the academic promotion passion. This is the year of change
From all the important events and features of Durham Cathedral, you can see that it occupies a very important position in history, architecture, history and religion. It is still widely visited today, especially for religious events and everyday people. (See the large timetable in Appendix G.) However, the cathedral has a 900-year history, so it is still and still being restored. (See appendix H for a list of major repairs, additions, and repairs.)
When I read Durham Cathedral, I liked that magnificent look and personality. I think this cathedral is very interesting. It may not be the largest cathedral on the planet, but in reality it may be the most unique cathedral. It was the first time to use both the well-known ribbon vaults and the flying arches that are noticed today. The cathedral lights are dark and dark like forts and castles, so I do not like it, but the Romanesque style that was widely used at the time. As a tourist I definitely take time to visit the wonders of the Durham Cathedral's architecture and religious landmarks.
