A Thousand Acres as Movie is Melodramatic and Bogus

Perhaps Jane Smoly's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel "Thousand acres" is somewhat overrated. On the other hand, the "dark secret" of this book seems to be completely untrustworthy. I do not believe in the hero or the narrator of this book, but the wife of 37-year-old Iowa farm called Ginny can completely suppress the fact that his father had sex with a 15-year-old night night. . For a true believer in the annual oppressive memory syndrome, this may sound like the gospel: I found it to be dramatic and fake.

Daily observation shows a strong, well-known stereotype about sex difference in movie preferences. It can be summarized as follows. The woman likes romantic and dramatic movies called "chicken movies" and "hidden tears", and comedies, but I do not like actions and horror movies. In contrast, men should prefer action and horror movies, but they do not like romance and melodramas. Empirical studies on gender differences in actual film preferences support these general stereotypes, at least to some extent (Oliver, 2000; Greenwood and Lippmann, 2010, see comments). For example, female assumptions about romance, melodrama, comedy have gained some empirical support (eg Oliver et al., 1998; Harris et al., 2000). The same applies to men and women's preferences of action and horror movies (eg Sparks, 1991; Krcmar and Kean, 2005).

I like Tyler Perry movies, especially Madea's movies. However, his film becomes very dramatic and can have a lifetime of TV quality. Here, "good deed" is one of those edge films. Perry plays a Wealthy act, a wealthy businessman who feels that he should do something else for his life. He met a single mother (Thadie Newton), her luck was bad, he began to help her, hoping to find some meaning for his life. This story is universal, or I call it "a girl, a beautiful woman in black". Even Emily agrees with this. Performance was not bad, but the dramatic performance was not bad. It may also have been dragging for about 2 hours, may have been shortened by about 20 minutes, and it is probably better to speak the same story. I do not think this is his worst movie, but it is far from his best movie. I would say that it might use some Madea, but she will not miss it as she is not suitable for any part of the movie.
