Indeed, the novel needs some thought, and because of the lack of a better word, it needs to work hard. But for all obstacles, I think it is worth all the hard work.

1. Download the dictionary application to your mobile phone and keep it near you as you read it. This is a quick way to improve your understanding. And Dickens really like his vocabulary!

2. If you encounter obscure sentences or paragraphs, the best way is to read it further (or twice) and move on. If you can get the general point of trying what Dickens is saying then you are doing very well! Please do not hang too much in a part which can not be understood.

3. If the points in the plot are a little confusing, look at that part and move forward after putting that moment in your head. "Two-city story" seems to be a drama. The upper half is set, it may be a crazy mess, but eventually everything comes together to draw a nice picture

Purchased a "story of two cities" together with an annotated version. If you get the Barnes and Nobles version, they give you footnotes and endnotes, which illuminate really historical and political circumstances. I insist on B & N, so I do not quite understand the endnote at the end of penguin classic, but both companies are very good.

Again, this is a very rewarding book. I truly hope that you decide that you will continue to work with Dickens, as he is ultimately worth it! But I also fully understand that if I want to take a break, put the novel aside. There is nothing wrong with the rest of this book.
