Independent peace was written by active writer John Knows from his real experience and personal struggle. In 1943 and 1944, Knowles participated in two summer courses at a special preparatory school Phillips Exeter College in New Hampshire. This book briefly outlines his experience at Exeter, he is the hero, but in the name of Jean Forester. Knowles' novel tells a tragic story of a young man who runs away from himself and his world, realizing a special and independent peace.

John Knowles began studying at Phillips ยท Exeter University at the age of 15. This is a famous boarding school in New Hampshire. Exeter is very similar to the imaginary school German he mentioned in the novel 'Peace of Independence'. Knowles graduated in 1945; however, he immediately did not go to the university. As part of the US Army Air Force Aviation program, he participated in the war. Then he went to Yale and graduated in 1949 when he traveled to Europe and served as a reporter. Then he returned to the United States in the mid-1950's, where he began to study 'independent peace'.
