In the early days of World War II, independence peace was a painful and bright allegory at a male boarding school in New England.

Independent peace is an adult novel by John Knowles. According to his early short story "Fiñas", this was the first novel by Knowles and became his most famous work. In the context of World War II, "independent peace" explores the loss of morality, patriotism and innocence through its narrator's genes. The main character, Gene Forrester, returned to the original preparatory school of Devon (depiction of Phillips Exeter College which is a teacher of Knowles) 15 years after graduation, he visits two places that he considered "a terrible place" I did: a marble stairway and a tree near the river, he made his friend Phineas fall.
