A photographic history of Baytown, from its oil boom to the early '90s

Baytown is 70 years old this week and has a rich and diligent history that can be seen in special photographs of local library websites.

Baytown we know today is made up of three towns that were merged in 1948: Goose Creek, an unincorporated area known as Perry and Baytown. It is called three cities until it is integrated

Before the merger, the Baytown Library has a website that collects numerous photos from Baytown, Goose Creek, Pelly's history.

After oil was discovered in 1908, oil was overflowing 30 miles east of downtown Houston. Goose Creek Oilfield is the first offshore drilling project in Texas and is the second offshore drilling project in the country. After that, in 1917 Humble Oil and Refining Company (later known as ExxonMobil) was founded in this area. The first refinery was completed in 1921, and the town around Baytown prospered.

From the 1970's to the 1970's, young and old baby Baytown residents want to see old movie theaters, churches and synagogues, banks and car dealers on a slide for photography enthusiast's records.

Some of the landmarks on the top slide are completely changed or disappeared. Like most of the main streets in the American town, Texas Avenue in this city has undergone a series of changes over the past century, but that quaint charm still remains.

Local people noticed the picture of Baytown tunnel opened in 1953. The tunnel is in front of the 450 ft twin tower leaning against the rough red Hartman bridge opened in 1995. This award-winning bridge is now an important landmark in this area. The last part of the old tunnel was demolished in 1999.

Early in 1822, the Baytown district began to calm down. One of the earliest inhabitants was Nathaniel Lynch who ferried the confluence of San Jacinto and Buffalo estuaries. The ferry service he started was still in service today and is now known as Lynchburg Ferry. Other early residents of Baytown include William Scott, one of Stephen F. Austin's Old Three Hundred, and Ashbel Smith, who owns the region's plantation. One of the first babies born in Baytown is Gertrude Gardner

In the beginning of his history, Cahokia experienced a huge construction boom. In the early stages of Monks Mound, the layout of the whole city was established within the premises. It has built a symbolic quadrilateral worldview heading in four main directions. And the main east - west and north - south axes were placed by Monks' mound near its center point. Four large plazas were created in the east, west, north and south of Monks Mound. On the south side of Monks Mound there is a Grand Plaza, about 50 acres (20 hectares) in size, over 1,600 feet (490 m) in width and over 900 feet (270 m) in width. Researchers initially thought that the flat and open terrain of this area reflects the position of Cahokia in the flood plain of the Mississippi River, but the soil research has its landscape originally undulating ridges and wetlands .

The ancient oak of Baytown on Texas Avenue was once used as a city sign. That age usually ranges from 300 to 1000 years. The Baytown Historical Protection Association (BHPA) recently conducted an official investigation of trees to determine the nut nut ages from 277.0 to 280.3. The tree is still solemnly standing in a place off the center, separating the traffic of Texas Avenue, the main street of the downtown of the Bay Center. The horizontal branch is on almost all channels. The trunk was short and obese, and the sweeping legs that swept the ground were knocked down or trimmed at different times.
